What Is FCPS Part 1 Medicine & Allied?

FCPS Part 1 in Medicine & Allied is the entry-level qualifying examination for candidates seeking residency training in Internal Medicine and its allied disciplines, including Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Pulmonology, Endocrinology, Nephrology, Neurology, Rheumatology, Haematology, Infectious Diseases, Dermatology, Paediatrics, and Hepatology. It is conducted by the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) and assesses foundational knowledge before progression to FCPS Part 2 and specialty training.

Passing FCPS Part 1 in Medicine is a prerequisite for joining accredited postgraduate training programmes at CPSP-recognized hospitals.

Paper 1 Syllabus

Paper 1 is the common basic sciences paper, almost identical across most FCPS Part 1 specialties. It covers the foundational subjects every medical graduate has studied:

• Anatomy: Gross Anatomy, Embryology, Histology, Neuroanatomy
• Physiology: System-wise physiology covering all body systems
• Biochemistry: Metabolism, Molecular Biology, Clinical Correlations
• Pharmacology: General principles, autonomic system, system-based pharmacology
• Pathology: General and Systemic Pathology
• Microbiology: Bacteriology, Virology, Parasitology, Mycology, Immunology
• Community Medicine: Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Public Health
• Behavioural Sciences: Doctor-patient communication, ethics, psychology

Who Can Apply?

• Educational qualification: MBBS or BDS degree recognized by the Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PMDC) or equivalent authority.
• House job: Completion of a one-year house job in a PMDC-recognized institution.
• Registration: Valid PMDC/PMC registration certificate.
• International graduates: Foreign medical degrees must be verified and equated by PMDC.
